It appears to be from the 1977 or so time period from my research. It does have the plastic handguard over the breech and is NOT drilled for the Williams peep. Walnut stock, dark glossy paint, rocker F/S safety, polished round muzzle plug, tapered rear receiver plug, no printing. Front of trigger guard has one rivet holding it trigger guard appears to be blued.
The blue book lists serial numbers as beginning in 1972 while the Airgun Digest number one, has a complete article on the gun and lists 1975 as the start date, further adding that as of Feb 1977 serial numbers were in the 'vicinity of 179,000.' Mine has a very small serial number printed on the left of the receiver, ' 7691G' and I am farily certain the last digit is a 'G'.
Serial number wise my thinking goes like this. If they numbered fron Jan 1975, and we don't know that, and if, 26 months later in Feb 1977 they were at 179 K, then they were making perhaps 6,884 units per month. At that rate they would roll the odometer over to one million in 145 months, at say, 12 years 2 months after Jan 1975 start date say, around Feb 1987, then perhaps they started doing 4 digits and a letter in batches of 10,000, the G series being the 7th such run. Therefore my 7691G would represent number 67,691 after Feb 1987 and at the same 6,884 units per month, I come up with December 1987. I know that is about 10 tons of supposition, but it just gives an idea. Certainly I believe this gun WAS produced before the 1992 Crosman buy out, and it is VERY similar to my Racine Benjamin 342, so much so that I think they were made on the same prod line. Certainly it would be handy if someone had a serial number listing.

Also, I would like any advice as far as shooting the old style pellets which the AGD #1, lists as having a ballistic coefficient of 0.0488 as opposed to a 22 caliber Diablo at 0.0185. Do the old style pellets make that much difference?
Also, would it be Kosher to add a period appropriate Williams peep, currently available or would that ruin the gun to professionally install?
Also, is there a section of the yellow forum dedicated to the Sheridans and Benjamin pumpers? Is there a web page listing the modifications done?
Any info appreciated,Blue
Thanks,
